How to Remove Face Paint without Scrubbing or Tears

What's the Best Way to Remove Face Paint?

Here are 5 easy steps for removing face paint and any residue left from the pigments (otherwise called a face paint stain). No harsh scrubbing needed.

1. Wash the face paint off with gentle soap and water. This is often enough to remove any trace of the face paint, but occasionally strong pigments may leave a stain. Don't panic, here's what to do next.

2. Check your bathroom cupboard for moisturising cream, baby oil, mineral oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil or something similar.

3. Apply the moisturising cream / oil to the skin at the site of the stain, gently rub it in and then take a cloth and wipe it off. This is usually enough to completely remove any stain or residue, with the added bonus of moisturising the skin.

4. Repeat step 3 if needed.

Things to Note

  • Face paint pigments can stain fabrics. Don't use your best towels or linens to remove the face paint!
  • You can use baby wipes or a disposable cotton makeup pad, instead of a cloth
  • Avoid scented baby wipes - these may cause an allergic reaction
  • Moisturising the skin a few hours before applying face paint should help to prevent stains
  • Darker pigments/colours, especially dark greens and teals, are more likely to stain
